Donor Information:
Studies show that living kidney donors live a normal, healthy life with only one kidney.
Organ donors need to be in good health with no major health issues.
Living donor kidneys have less chance of rejection and almost always start functioning immediately.
A donor candidate has a complete medical workup in order to be cleared in good health for living kidney donation. This is to determine minimal risk to the donor.
Living donation can help avoid the restraints of dialysis, giving someone the chance to return to a more normal, active lifestyle.
The expenses for the donor giving a kidney are paid by the recipient’s health insurance. However, the donor must have health insurance, as lifelong follow-up requires the donor’s own health insurance.
Recipient Blood Type: A+
