Donor Information:

  • Studies show that living kidney donors live a normal, healthy life with only one kidney.

  • Organ donors need to be in good health with no major health issues.

  • Living donor kidneys have less chance of rejection and almost always start functioning immediately.

  • A donor candidate has a complete medical workup in order to be cleared in good health for living kidney donation. This is to determine minimal risk to the donor.

  • Living donation can help avoid the restraints of dialysis, giving someone the chance to return to a more normal, active lifestyle.

  • The expenses for the donor giving a kidney are paid by the recipient’s health insurance. However, the donor must have health insurance, as lifelong follow-up requires the donor’s own health insurance.

  • Recipient Blood Type: A+
